I have come to the realization that my wife Corrine and I are, “Pet Slaves”. Here is what I mean. Our daughter’s dog “Georgie” and her cat “Willow” and her Gold Fish  “Mimi” run the house, we just support it all for them....

Willow, is in heat.. If you have never experienced that you are in for a real treat... She cries and cries and moves slowly in a mating position attracted to anything that is nearby and anyone that moves. Her howling, yowling and strange behavior goes on for about five days and five long nights!  She sounds like four different animals all at once:“Yowwwwwwwwllllllllll, “Prrrrrrrrrrrrrr”, Rearrrrrrrrrrr”, Wrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyllllllllll!!!!”…..

The complete cycle can take 10 – 14 days.  This is her second cycle in her short, little, life so far… wow… really? Oh this was not in the kitty catalog we saw…no it was not!

Then Georgie the “Chow/Spitz mix” is so tired of the cat’s insane behavior, he wants to go out to get away so we let him outside, but then barks at whatever sounds he hears outside and we have to call him back in. Now he needs water outside and inside, food and a place to go out. Of course the cat also needs food and water constantly, and the Gold Fish needs food and a clean tank… work, work, work.

They all eat when we eat, and Georgie especially loves “cocktail hour” with cheese and crackers.. his favorite cracker is “Triskets” but he loves anything with a good crunch, like Chinese Fortune Cookies and crunchy toast corners…

But of course, then they eat when they want to eat also. We constantly buy and maintain their food and water bowls.. Oh we can’t go away, “Who will watch the pets??” It may cost $30.00 dollars a day for a proper and trusted “pet sitter”, oh no not a kennel… no, no, no, noooooooooo.

Oh and they don’t pay rent either, or even one bill we get, or even pitch in around the house! “Hey Georgie, can you at least take out the garbage once in a while???.. Really I am not getting any help here… and Willow how about cleaning your own damn cat boxes?" Oh she requires two. One upstairs, one downstairs… can YOU clean it.. in-between howling and squirming around the house all night??? How about picking up the items you knock off the shelves at 2:00 AM? And please stop climbing into the kitchen sink for once, OK?”

Oh we love you all but “Mimi” is by far the most, “well behaved pet” She floats there quietly with large eyes forgetting everything until the next flakes of fish food float her way… For my next life, I will only have fish… now that’s a start..

We also have been happy lately about  our friendly red Cardinal bird , who comes by at 10:30 AM by the feeder each morning. He does not require much… as long as he stays outside. J

“Ah but without pets, what would life be?”
